Interest in Go/Igo/Weiqi/Baduk at MFM11(07)?

Sabaku's picture

Under the assumption I'll be attending MFM 2007, assuming life doesn't throw any curve balls at me. I noticed at MFM9 (I think?) someone had set up some boards in the garden court. This year I'll likely be bringing at least one, if not two Go/Igo/Weiqi/Baduk sets. I would love to meet, and perhaps play a few games with some folks who already knows the game, or perhaps are interested in learning the game. Though I fear my ability to teach might be a bit on the lacking side. Willing to try either way, and can at least teach the fundimentals.

Currently I only have one complete set consisting of a decent Shin-Kaya board and Yunzi stones. I now however have two Shin-Kaya folding boards, though I'm still working on the second basic set of glass stones for the 2nd board. I also have a 9x9 and 13x13 reversable board that i might try to bring as well, depending on how much Im wanting to carry. I do have tocarry them part way on a bus and over a total of 1100 miles. x.x

I'm sort of using this thread as a means to gauge interest. So please, feel free to leave a reply if you're interested!

For those who are unfamiliar with the game, LOOK HERE for more info

You can also learn some of the basics on how to play by clicking HERE

I'm also open to playing online in the meantime. I know of a couple good free browser-based online go servers.

Anyway, thanks in advance for your time and interest.

New MFM badge name: Xzion

Just wanted to let folks know that are interested in Go, that I'll likely be under a different badge name other than Sabaku. Due to a couple of specific events, I've switched to the badge name of Xzion. However I will likely wear at least one Sabaku art badge.

So yeah, anyway, keep an eye out for the name Xzion instead. :)

Oooo...

I'd like to learn Go. My parents used to have a set, but I've never seen it played. We eventually used the stones in the fish bowl - but that's neither here nor there.

I'd be happy to show you how

I'd be happy to show you how to play. It really is pretty easy to learn, though it takes a long time to master.

*whimpers at the thought of go stones swimming with the fishes!* ;)

The fish were never the same. Such thoughtful, contemplative guppies... so intent on eating their own young.

Go!

I've been wanting to learn to play the game, myself. I'm interested!

 Bwa, been checking up on

Bwa, been checking up on this post to see if there were any replies, but somehow missed yours every time. How is -that- possible? x.x

Anyway, perhaps we should exchange contact info and see about meeting up at the con? I should be pretty easy to find during a good portion of the con, just ask any of the staff  in the Video Room. I'll be helping out there a fair bit. Maybe we can arrange something. I suggest taking a look at the online tutorial, unless you prefer a 100% personal introduction to the game. Its easy to learn hard to master.

I think my comments and such are very easily missed on this forum x.x I've gotta bring a couple of videos by, anyway. I'll be the kid with the guitar, pretty easy to spot. I don't have a board with which to learn. I'm not sure how much more an online guide would help. Besides, I prefer being taught in person to the DIY learning method. I'm gonna be mapping out my schedule when I find out when everything is, so I'll be sure to make time where we can just sit down and play. I'll meet up with you, of course, to make sure we can BOTH do it x3 [akachan wo taberou]

Maybe its the black and

Maybe its the black and white icon, who knows. Kind of blended in.

I'll definitely try to keep an eye out for any guitars. The basic  rules and concepts are very easy to pick up, the rest comes from experience and/or study.

That's the nice thing about the one tutorial I linked to, it teaches by example, you learn by doing in real time all within the browser. I could also show you how to play online, I know a couple good online servers. Either way, it all works. I know I'll likely have one playable board of each size with me.

But yeah, asking a staff member of the video room should narrow down where I can be found, if I'm not there myself.

Do you use any IM client(s)?

hey, black and white is classy! x3

Perhaps, then, we shall play online when I get my new computer.

I can be AIMed at "Wolf on the Wire"
I'm not often on MSN, so I don't recommend you trying to contact me there, but if you must, it's "wolf_on_the_wired@hotmail.com"

Sweet, I've added both

Sweet, I've added both contacts to my IMs. I'll keep an eye out and say hi next time I see you around! Look forward to talking to you!

On the up side, the online go servers aren't all that hardware intensive. Most run in java from what I've seen.
